PETS AT WORK: DO YOU HAVE TO ALLOW THEM?
Posted on July 8th, 2017
Do your workers want to bring their pets to work? A dog bite may create a workers’ comp case and, possibly, an OSHA recordable incident. In addition, not all employees like seeing other people’s dogs, cats, and lizards. About a third of adults are allergic to dogs and/or cats. The University of Texas also recently reported many adults fear household pets. Before you decide to delight the dog owners in your workplace, ask yourself whether you may be inhibiting performance among the others. You must accommodate someone who requires a service animal, such as a seeing-eye dog, but you don’t have to allow all pets at work.
